DOs and DON'Ts of Hunting
-
DO make sure you are booked in, and bring your completed disclaimer for your first hunt
-
DO set off in plenty of time
-
DO make sure your horse is plaited and clean
-
DO put a red ribbon in your horse’s tail if he might kick, or a green one if new to hunting
-
DO make sure you are correctly dressed with long hair in a hairnet
-
DO find the secretary in good time to pay your cap and get a wristband before mounting
-
DO listen to the NWBH team and obey instructions (anyone wearing gold hunt collars or orange NWBH hi viz)
-
DO be mounted and ready to leave by 11:20am
-
DO enjoy yourself and smile
-
DO greet Masters, Secretary, ground/support team with a cheery good morning!
-
DO address all Masters as “Master”, even if you know their names
-
DO carry any inhalers/ medication you may need
-
DO leave lots of space behind the horse in front when jumping – you don’t want to land up the horse’s bottom!
-
DO thank drivers for stopping
-
DO ask for help if you need it
-
DO clear up after your horse on the car park
-
DO support our hosts by buying a drink after the hunt if you can
-
DO say “Goodnight” to the Masters before you leave – even if it’s the middle of the afternoon!

DON’T let your horse kick the hounds – if they’re close by, turn your horse’s head to face them

DON’T overtake the Field Master

DON’T cut others up in front of jumps
-
DON’T attempt any jump more than twice
-
DON’T let your horse get too close to the horse in front
